This Thanksgiving, Give Thanks. Give Back.

What is Around the Table?

Around the Table is a fundraiser to support Local Food for Local Good’s COVID-19 Food Relief Program.  Throughout the month of October people across Northumberland host their own dinner party or social gathering and collect charitable donations to help provide healthy, fresh food to school-aged children and their families.

How It Works

Around the Table is a fun, easy and social fundraising campaign that brings people together virtually in support of others over the Thanksgiving season.

Due to COVID-19 we recommend that all gatherings are hosted virtually.  If you are gathering within your own social bubble please do so safely while following all public health guidelines, including the maximum number of people allowed for indoor and outdoor functions.

As a host, you register your dinner or party online and receive a host kit, notecards and other tools.  Your dinner party can take any form from a physical distancing potluck to an online recipe exchange to a virtual Thanksgiving meal with loved ones.

Here’s how it works:

1. Register your dinner or party online or send an email to info@localfoodforlocalgood.ca. Your fundraiser can take place any time between now and November 1st (after is fine too).

2. Once you register online you will have a personal web page that you can send with your e-vite or share to your social media.

3. Ask your guests to make a financial contribution of their choice to support the cause.

4. Setup a donation box at your dinner for your guests or provide them with the link to your personal web page so they can donate online.  All charitable donations will receive a tax receipt.

5. Give thanks!  Send notecards to your guests after your dinner (cards will be sent to you) to express your gratitude for their generosity.

This October, invite your friends and family to virtually join you Around the Table to help provide healthy, fresh food to school-aged children and their families.

When we gather around a table, we reflect and celebrate what we’re grateful for: love, health, work, food, shelter and many other things.  But we know that not every table has food on it.  COVID-19 is taking it’s toll on people’s financial and emotional health, When we know a child is going without nutritious food or a parent is struggling to provide a hot meal for their children we must act.  No one – especially a child – should have to experience hunger.  Building this much-needed fundraising effort around a powerful symbol of food and human connection, while remembering how thankful we should be for what we have, goes to the heart of what community is all about.

What are we fundraising for?

Donations to Around the Table will help fund Local Food for Local Good’s COVID-19 Food Relief Program.  The program supports school-aged children who are unable to access their Student Nutrition Program due to the pandemic or who may require some additional help during this time.  The program serves as an emergency food supplement and does not duplicate the efforts of local food banks or existing Student Nutrition Programs.  Student and family outreach is coordinated in consultation with Northumberland Food for Thought.

Local Food for Local Good is a registered charity committed to increasing awareness of local, sustainable food while advocating for the accessibility and affordability of healthy food for everyone.  Learn more at localfoodforlocalgood.ca.
